Burnett, pitching sends Lady Cards to quarters
PARIS — The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals (9-8) kept their season alive
Friday with a 2-0 win over Perryville to open the Region 2 Regional Tournament at Paris High School.
Both teams played to a zero score through three innings before the Lady Cardinals sneaked a run across in the fourth, taking advantage of an error at first base to lead 1-0. Cloie Mitchell would come in on the miscue.
In the fourth, Harmony Grove capitalized on an RBI single from Kylie Burnett to bring home Mackenzie Morrow, taking a 2-0 lead.
Perryville challenged the Lady Cardinals in the sixth and seventh, putting a pair of runners on in both frames. However, the bats could
not complete the threat as Harmony Grove held on for the 2-0 shutout and advanced to the quarterfinals against arch rival Glen Rose. The Lady Beavers came from behind in their openinground match, winning 5-2 to advance.
First pitch for today’s game is unknown at this time due to the threat of inclement weather.
Thursday, Perryville stranded 10 runners while failing to outhit Harmony Grove 9-7. The Lady
Cardinals, though, would commit three errors in the win.
At the plate, Burnett led with three hits and an RBI, followed by Morrow and Mitchell each with two knocks.
Burnett also started in the circle, logging three innings of scoreless action, only walking one hitter while allowing three hits. Mitchell followed, tossing the final four frames while striking out two and giving up four hits.
Harmony Grove’s next match against Glen Rose will be the second of the year. The Lady Cardinals fell to the Lady Beavers 8-3 on April 11.
