Council to discuss termination
The Bryant City Council voted last month to give the City’s Advertising and Promotion commissioners 30 days notice of a termination vote. The two aldermen who serve on the commission, Carlton Billingsley and Lorne Gladden, have requested the council discuss the commissioners’ termination again.
The council’s regular meeting is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boswell Municipal Complex.
During the final section of the council’s meeting in April, Alderman RJ Hawk made a motion to “issue a 30-day termination notice to all A&P members appointed by the previous administration.”
The motion was approved with Billingsley and Gladden, as well as Alderman Rob Roedel, not in attendance.
The only commissioner not involved in the termination vote is Billingsley, who was appointed by Mayor Allen Scott.
According to the city’s ordinance, “the city council of the city of Bryant may remove any member of the commission by a two thirds vote upon 30 days notice of intent to take such vote and prior to such vote occurring.”
A special meeting for the vote has been set for 6 p.m. June 4 at Boswell Municipal Complex.
Chairman of the commission Bob Joiner is scheduled to make a quarterly report to the council during Tuesday’s meeting. Mary Vickers, director of the Bryant Wellness and Activity Center, is scheduled to make a presentation as well.
Other items on the agenda include:
•A proclamation for Building Safety Month.
•An update about Bryant Parkway.
•2019 financial reports and an amended budget for the city.
•An ordinance to waive competitive bidding for IT services.
•Three resolutions for job descriptions and income ranges for city engineer, wastewater superintendent and water superintendent positions.
•Ordinance levying a taxes on real and personal taxes.
•A resolution involving a franchise agreement for ambulance services with Saline Memorial Hospital.
•An ordinance rezoning a property on 3820 Arkansas 5 as C-2 to C-1.
All meetings of the council are open to the public and attendance is encouraged.
