Thin skin and presidency don’t jive

- GEORGE D. ELLIS

It is remarkable. Donald Trump is so small and temperamental that his staff reacts in fear. It is a cult of personality, worthy of a strongman. He admires Putin, Orban of Hungary, Duterte of the Philippines, Kim of North Korea, and the like. Trump consistently sides with these thugs and murderers over his own intelligence agencies.

The Russia thing is particularly egregious. If Trump was elected with the help of Russia, that means that Trump’s 2016 win is less than legitimate.

It’s all about him.

The latest occurred Thursday morning on the lawn of the White House. He made it clear that the only person who brought about his election was Donald J. Trump.

The Russians did not contribute to his win. Never mind the millions of people who voted for him.

To demonstrate just how small Trump is, the latest is yet another slam on the late Sen. John Mccain.

It has been confirmed that the USS John Mccain was harbored in Japan near the ship on which Trump was going to give a Memorial Day speech. The staff feared that if he saw the name of John Mccain on that war ship, he would go into a rage.

So, the staff simply tried to get the

U.S. Navy to move the ship out of Trump’s sight.

The project to move the vessel was underway until senior brass stepped in and made it clear that they would not support something like that.

But it got worse.

Although sailors in the area were invited and expected to attend, none of the Mccain crew was invited to the ship

(the USS Wasp) where

Trump was speaking.

Some showed up anyway.

The name of the ship is on their caps, and they were turned away. They were told to wear civilian attire in order to be admitted.

One would expect this incident to unfold in the Soviet Union under Stalin or Italy under Mussolini, or Germany under you-know-who. Even in our own country, such an incident might have occurred under the reign of Huey Long of Louisiana. The plain truth is, dictators create a cult.

So, what’s behind Trump’s latest storm in which he smears Sen. Mccain’s name, lies generally, and reacts to

Robert Mueller’s first (and probably last) press conference in which he made it clear that Tump had engaged in criminal conduct consisting of obstruction of justice?

Why would he announce that he and his administration were fighting “every subpoena?”

Impeachment?

Wait. According to Trump, that’s a “dirty, filthy, disgusting, word.”

The best explanation is that Trump has moved to panic mode. Thursday, he said, “Russia didn’t get me elected. I got me elected.”

Only a panicking, self-absorbed narcissist would say something like that. This is the man who called a cooperating witness a “rat.” The man who called a witness who refused to cooperate “strong.”

When the financial data hits, we will be shocked to see that Donald Trump appears to head a crime family. He has one bank he’s been dealing with for years. He sued them, and they still do business with him. That bank loaned him hundreds of millions of dollars.

That particular bank has a deep and complicated connection with the Russian government.

That connection is not coincidental. We’re seeing more and more of Donald Trump each day. He tries desperately to project strength and shelfassurance.

But he can’t fool us.

He’s actually the little man behind the curtain. And when we pull the curtain back, we find a small, petty, and not-very-smart individual who is not well-read and incapable of a sustained abstract thought.

But there is one group that he has fooled.

The Republicans.

It’s not enough for the Democrats to read the Mueller Report. It is chilling, and all Americans should read it. Especially the Republicans.
