Impeach. It is the only answer.

- GEORGE D. ELLIS

Donald Trump is at it again. He has committed yet another impeachable offense.

This time, he made it clear to George Stephanopoulos that if Russia offered damaging information on his political opponent, he would take the information and not call the FBI.

The Director of the FBI made it clear that any political candidate should always call the FBI in those circumstances.

“He’s wrong,” is the comment Trump offered. Here is the specific quote:

“It’s not an interference, they have information — I think I’d take it. If I thought there was something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI — if I thought there was something wrong.”

And then he added, “I’ll tell you what, I’ve seen a lot of things over my life. I don’t think in my whole life I’ve ever called the FBI. In my whole life . ... Oh, give me a break — life doesn’t work that way.”

There is a lot to unpack there, so the political cliché goes. First, it’s “not interference.”

Oh, really?

All of our intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia attempted to interfere with our elections in 2016. In case there was any doubt regarding motive,

Putin cleared that up in

Helsinki.

“We wanted Trump to win,” he said.

So, we can safely say that “dirt” is by definition interference.

Second, he’s proud of having never contacted the FBI. I don’t know why he would. As the head of what appears to be one of America’s largest crime families, he would have reason not to engage the services of the FBI. Special agents are not likely to befriend Donald Trump.

But the most chilling remark he made had to do with his relationship between himself, the intelligence agencies and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Trump made it abundantly clear that he would never authorize surveillance on Kim.

Why not?

Is he that good of a friend? Is that what it means to “fall in love?”

Kim is a brutal murderer and allaround thug. He is yet another international gangster that Trump admires. Putin, Kim, Duterte of the Philippines and more. The list is long, and it is apparent that Trump wants to make his way onto the list.

They are the most treacherous monsters on the globe.

Why is this yet another impeachable offense?

It gives voice to the notion that Donald Trump does not believe in the Rule of Law. He routinely engages in conduct that constitutes an abuse of power.

At one time, I was one of those who said that since the Senate will not stand tall (67 votes), and since the Republicans have a majority, and since Mitch Mcconnell is in charge, the effort is futile. But there is another side to it. If the House of Representatives does not impeach him, what will we tell our kids and grandkids?

Will it embolden him?

Probably.

But it has to be done. For the sake of our constitution, not to mention our pride, it’s got to be done. Get it done quickly and surgically.

We will be surprised to see how many Republicans join the team.
