FAYETTEVILLE – The Bryant Black Sox (senior) would split on the first day of the Chad Wolff Classic in Fayetteville, downing Clutch Performance 5-1 in the first game and falling

4-2 to Sandlot Sox Russell in the second.

A 1-1 game after five innings vs. Clutch, the Sox (5-2) put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the win.

The Sox would get a little help in that bottom of the sixth when Logan Chambers reached on a one-out error and Logan Catton walked. After a ground out for the second

out moved the runners to second and third, Jake Wright loaded the bases with a walk before Gage Stark knocked two runs in with a single for the 3-1 lead. Logan Grant walked before Coby Greiner doubled in two more for the

5-1 final.

Bryant was outhit 5-3 in the game, but made their hits count late as Greiner and Stark both went 1 for 3 with two RBIS each. Cade Drennan had the other hit, going 1 for 3 with a run.

Christian Motes started and pitched well, giving up just one run on five hits and a walk, striking out four in 4.2 innings. Greiner picked up the win pitching two hitless and scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one as well.

In their 2-run loss vs. Sandlot, the Sox would get down 4-0 after two innings before putting up a run in the bottom of the third when Chambers reached on a one-out single and later scored on a wild pitch. Bryant got within 4-2 in the fifth when Chambers again scored on a wild pitch, but that’s all the offense the Black Sox could muster.

Chambers finished

2 for 4 with two runs, while Noah Davis was 1 for 2. Bryant had just six hits combined in the two games.

Catton started giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk, striking out one in two innings. Slade Renfrow was excellent in relief, throwing five hitless and scoreless innings, allowing just one walk and striking out four.
