Melvin Mcadoo, 96, passed away on June 27, 2019. He was born November 9, 1922, in Haskell, Arkansas, to Richard and Lillian Mcadoo. He graduated from Benton High School and entered the Army at age 20. He served our country during WWII as a sharpshooter in the Pacific Islands. After returning from the war, he met and married Wanda West, whom he lovingly referred to as “my girl” for 73 years.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, Jimmie David Mcadoo, and his sister, Everee Tallent. Melvin is survived by his wife, Wanda; his daughter Kathy Pelton

(Jackie); his two granddaughters Jacqueline Vergason (Keith) and Karmen Landers (Steve, Jr.); five great grandchildren, Hannah Van Horn (Seth), Zane Vergason, Annika Landers, Tripp Landers and Aubree Landers; and one sister, Thelma Rider.

Wanda and Melvin shared a love of Razorback football and many traveling adventures with friends and family. One particular trip took the family on a two week, 5,000-mile journey, in the family van, through the western U.S. and Canada. Melvin worked as a mule logger and farmer and eventually retired from Reynolds after 35 years of service.

Melvin was a lover of the great outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and

gardening. He was an avid marksman who prided himself in pinpoint accuracy at age 95. On any given day, he could be found on his tractor cutting firewood and bush hogging. Melvin was a member of First Baptist Church for 37 years where he faithfully served as a deacon.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2 at First Baptist Church Benton,

Arkansas. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 12 p.m. Pallbearers are Keith Vergason; Steve Landers, Jr.; Zane Vergason; Tripp Landers; Seth Van Horn and Jim Mallory. Burial will follow the funeral service at Smithrosemont Cemetery.
