ARKADELPHIA – After battling in a 27-25 first set loss, the Bauxite Miners would fall in their next two sets to get swept by the Arkadelphia Lady Badgers on the road Thursday. It stayed close in the second set with Bauxite falling 25-19, but the Lady Badgers shut the Lady Miners down 25-12 in the final set to drop Bauxite to 1-3 overall, 1-1 in the 4A West Conference.

“It was tough to walk out of that gym (Thursday) night with a quiet bus ride home,” Bauxite Coach Dave Carter said. “Arkadelphia played well and pushed us. Credit to them. We fought hard throughout the first two sets and had chances to win both, but we simply made unforced

errors at inopportune times. The result of the game might have been different if we had been able to take that next step of finishing. I must do a better job of preparing them.”

Bauxite sophomore Lindsey Cross led the team with seven kills, adding four aces, while sophomore Haley Howard had five kills with a team-leading nine aces.

Senior Sophie Kennedy led with seven assists, followed by sophomore Victoria Lockhart’s four, while senior Bree Hardin had two blocks.

“I love the fight of this team, their desire to do well,” Carter said of the Lady Miners. “We continue to invest in the process of learning how to win and how to execute when the pressure is on. That investment will reap the rewards of winning in due time.”

The Lady Miners are back in action Tuesday when they host the Mena Lady Bearcats at Fred Dawson Gym.
