- By Chris Morgan

GLEN ROSE — The Beavers picked up 302 rushing yards Friday night en route to a 41-6 win over Perryville and remain undefeated at 5-0 in 4-3A Conference play.

“We were hitting stuff here and there, then we’ll have a negative play and set us behind the chains,“Head Coach Mark Kehner said. “If we can figure out how to be more consistent on offense, we have a chance of being a really good football team.”

The Mustangs won the coin toss before the game and opted to receive the opening kickoff.

Perryville’s the first drive only went 15 yards as the beaver defense held forcing two incomplete passes.

The Beavers would score on their first drive of the game after a key punt return by Matthew Clark to the Mustang 41-yard line set the offense up for a 7-play drive ending with a 6-yard touchdown run from Ethan Taylor with 5:58 left in the first quarter.

After the quick threeand-out forced by the Beaver defense, the

Glen Rose offense found itself across the goal line once again with a 7-play, 70-yard drive highlighted by a 43-yard pass from quarterback Wesley Launius to receiver Noah Wright, and a 29-yard run from Taylor to the Perryville 1-yard line with 2:29 in the first quarter.

By the end of the first quarter the Beavers offense would be back on the field as the defense held the Mustangs to just a 6-play drive. However, on their following drive the Beaver offense would struggle to find the end zone. On a drive that took 14 plays and nearly six minutes off the second-quarter clock, the Beavers would eventually find the goal line with a 3-yard run from Gavin Chaney.

The Beaver defense would yet again hold the Mustangs; however, the Beaver offense would fail to convert on a fourthand-2 on the Mustang 13-yard line turning the ball over with 1:29 left in the first half. The halftime clock would run out on the Mustangs as the Beavers went into the half ahead 21-0.

The Beavers would only score once in the third quarter with a

9-yard run from Launius following 49-yard drive after the Mustangs failed to convert an onside kick as the opening kickoff of the first half.

After both teams traded possession, the Beavers were inside the Mustang red zone at the end of the third quarter. The Beavers would score on the first drive of the fourth with Taylor scoring his second touchdown run of the night with a 5-yard run, however the extra point would be missed making the score 34-0.

The Beavers would put their final points on the board with 9:01 to play in the game, with a 2-yard run from Brendon Byrd.

The Mustangs would put their first points on the board with 1:32 to play in the game, but fail to convert on their 2-point conversion, making the final 41-6.

“It’s going to be a tough road game next week,” Kehner said. “We can’t give up big plays, they’re going to throw the ball on us and we’ll have to do a good job protecting against it.”

Next week the Beavers travel to face the Atkins on the road, and face the only other 5-0 team in conference play.
