LITTLE ROCK – The Benton tennis team took a

6-2 loss to the Little Rock Christian Warriors this past Monday at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. It was Benton’s second straight loss as a team, after going undefeated prior to that, before the 5A Central Conference Tournament begins next week.

The good news for Benton is doubles duo senior Nathan Williams and junior Luke Pelton remained undefeated on the season heading into conference and will be the No. 1 seed when they compete next week. On Monday, Williams and Pelton played two matches with LRC’S C. Gordon and E. Mcsweeney, winning both by 6-2 scores.

Benton’s only other match win on Monday also came from the Panthers doubles team, with junior Eli Rose and senior Logan Davis taking 6-0 and 6-1 victories over W. Kinzler and O. Castro.

In boys singles action, Benton sophomore Blake Covert, the No. 4 seed in conference next week, fell 0-6, 1-6 to LRC’S Malcolm Wengel, the No. 1 seed, and Panther junior Marcelles Nash, the No. 6 seed, dropped 4-6, 4-6 decisions to Caleb Roystuart. Nash and Roystuart, the No. 3 seed, will meet again in the conference tournament Monday.

For the Lady Panthers, doubles duo senior Alyssa Carter and freshman Lily Jessen fell for the first time this season, dropping 4-6 and 1-6 matches to SK Hankins and K. Christian, the No. 1 seed, but the Benton duo will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s conference tourney.

Benton senior Shealyn Horton and sophomore Emma Young would also fall in the doubles play, losing 2-6, 2-6 to MK Nelson and A. Jeffrey.

In girls singles play, Benton junior Chloe Hamilton fell 1-6, 1-6 to Katherine Gilliam and senior Erin Welch also lost 1-6, 1-6 to S. Burton.

The conference tournament will be held at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock beginning Monday at 9:15 a.m. In boys singles play,

No. 4 seed Covert takes on No. 5 seed Will Rudd (Beebe), with No. 6 seed Nash playing No. 3 seed Roystuart.

In girls singles, Benton junior seventh seed Rylee Sisco will play Maumelle

No. 10 Hannah Davis, while No. 8 seed, senior Hannah Grace Fritz, will play No. 9 Samantha Lee (Maumelle).

Williams and Pelton are the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of Kinzler and Castro (LRC) and J. Mcknight and K. Putnam (Maumelle). Davis and junior Peyton Shipp are the No. 3 seed and will take on LRC’S Gordon and Mcsweeney, the sixth seed.

No. 2 seed Carter and Jessen will face No. 7 seed K. Stanger and K. Putnam of Maumelle, while No. 5 seed Horton and senior Allison Hall will play Sylvan Hills No. 4 seed J. Berrieum and H. Pridmore. \

UPDATE:

The Panthers and Lady Panthers also took on Arkadelphi­a Thursday in nonconfere­nce action, falling 5-3.

Williams and Pelton won 8-3 over C. Mckinney and R. Womack, with Davis and Shipp winning 8-4 over Tyler Bobo and C. Lewis for a doubles sweep. Rose and Covert teamed up for an 8-1 win in junior varsity action.

In boys singles, Nash fell 4-8 to M. Mckinney and Covert dropped 5-8 to S. Grimm.

In girls doubles, Hall and Horton won 8-2 over J. Jones and M. Trigg, with Young and freshman Paisley Hopkins falling 4-8 to B. Womack and M. Womack. In JV action, sophomore Sasha Stamps and senior Allison Mcmillan won 8-1 over S. Trigg and M. Trigg, with Benton sophomore Maddie-kate Shelton and Hamilton shutting out G. Elmore and C. Corozza 8-0.

In girls singles, Jessen fell 4-8 to O. Lock and Hamilton fell 3-8 to B. Boyles.
