BAUXITE — The Bauxite Miners failed to capitalize on a pair of great scoring opportunities in the first half of their home game against Joe T. Robinson Friday. Ultimately, that proved too much to overcome in 7-4A Conference play at The Pit.

Aside from those two early-game situations, the Senators dominated Bauxite, earning a 52-3 victory, and also snapping the Miners two-game win streak.

The Miners (3-5, 2-3) quickly found themselves down 14-0. However, they received a great chance to put a dent into Robinson’s lead when they had the ball inside the Senator 1-yard line. But, Bauxite was unable to get into the end zone turning the ball over on downs.

Early in the second quarter, still trailing Robinson 14-0, the Miners had another great chance to get into the end zone.

After Bauxite’s Zack Taylor recovered a Senator fumble and returned it to the 1-yard line, it seemed likely that the Miners would score. However, things didn’t go as planned for Bauxite.

The Miners initially crossed the goal line but the TD was taken off the board due to an illegal procedure penalty. On the next snap, a run resulted in a loss of 6 yards. That was followed by consecutive incomplete passes.

Eventually, kicker Garrett Mccallister made a 30-yard field goal. With 11:17 remaining in the first half, the score was 14-3. Mccallister’s kick failed to spark the Miners.

Robinson (5-3) was impressive dominating the game and picking up a league win.

The Senators scored on their first possession of the evening and they never looked back.

Hunter Smith ran 30 yards for a TD and Brock Ballard, who went 6 of 7 on extra points, made the kick. Robinson pushed its lead out to 14-0 when Buddy Gaston completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Daryl Searcy Jr.

After Mccallister’s kick got Bauxite on the board, the Senators scored again when Donovan Young caught an 11-yard TD pass from Gaston. The snap was botched as the score remained 20-3.

Smith’s 63-yard TD carry, followed by the 2-point reception by Young, put Robinson up 28-3.

Moments later, Young intercepted a pass.

Robinson took advantage of the miscue when Anthony Freeman got a 36-yard touchdown reception from Gaston. With 7:07 left in the first half, Robinson led 35-3. After recovering a Bauxite fumble, the Senators added to their lead when Ballard made a 34-yard field goal with under a minute left until the half. At the intermission, Bauxite trailed 38-3.

The third and fourth quarters were played under the mercy rule.

Robinson scored its first points of the second half when Grant Jones caught a 33-yard TD. At the end of the third, Bauxite trailed 45-3.

In the fourth, Kirby Owens hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jack Cleveland. That helped Robinson build 52-3 lead with 9:33 left to play.

From that point, neither team would score again.

The Miners will try to regroup Friday when they head to Arkadelphia to take on the Badgers, which downed Ashdown 47-20 on the road.
