Bryant falls in return to pool

BRYANT – Not competing for roughly a month, the Bryant swim team was back in action this past Thursday, hosting the Conway

Wampus Cats for the Bryant January Invite at Bishop Park. Both the Bryant boys and girls would fall in the return.

Conway outscored the Lady Hornets 474 - 370, while the Wampus Cats got the better of the Bryant boys 645.5 - 524.5.

GIRLS

Bryant sophomore diver Jessica Rolen got the Lady Hornets off to a good start, setting a career best in the 1-meter dive. Rolen’s 172.10 points took the event, with junior teammate Julianne Davis taking second with 147.70 points. Freshman Bailey Gould took fourth with 98.10.

Bryant junior Shelby Bratton kept the winning going in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 28.76 for the victory. Sophomore Portia Probst (31.28), junior Alyssa Addison (31.88) and sophomore Emily Martin (33.93) took spots four through six.

Gould took the top spot in the 100 butterfly, winning in a time of 1:22.95, which was almost 13 seconds better than the runner-up swimmer.

Junior Aidan Halladay eased to a win in the 500 freestyle as all three Conway swimmers were disqualifi­ed. Halladay’s lonely swim was finished in 6:42.05.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Bratton, Probst, Gould and Martin would win the event in a time of 2:04.30.

Bratton was just two seconds from a win in the 200yard freestyle, taking second in a time of 2:11.50.

Addison was barely beaten in the 100 freestyle. Addison’s time of 1:11.21 was just 0.04 seconds shy of Conway’s Chloe Upton’s 1:11.17. Bryant junior Gracie Ruff was fifth in a personal-record time of 1:21.78.

Halladay placed second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:12.68.

The foursome of Bratton, Ruff, Halladay and Gould took second in the 200-yard medley relay, just missing out on first by two seconds in a time of 2:17.72.

Addison, Ruff, Probst and Halladay took second in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 5:00.87.

Ruff set a new PR in the 100 breaststro­ke, taking third overall in a time of 1:36.73, just over five seconds off the first-place pace. BOYS

Senior Tyler Peters picked up Bryant’s first win of the day, taking the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.88. Sophomore teammate Brylane Holloway was on his heels for second in 1:02.35.

Freshman Jase Gladden won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:38.96, with sophomore teammate Eli Matthews second in a PR time of 5:50.56.

Loftis and Gladden took the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:01.45, with Peters, sophomore Ian Archer, sophomore Ethan Eubanks and Holloway taking second in 4:19.64.

Gladden settled for second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:01.08, four seconds from the leader. Junior Samuel Vinson (1:02.39), senior Hayden Smith (1:06.56) and Peters (1:16.39) took spots 4 - 6.

Gladden, junior Samuel Vinson, senior Laquav Brumfield and senior Hayden Smith would take second in the 200 medley relay.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Vinson, Brumfield, Loftis and Smith came up just short. Conway edged Bryant by less than two seconds with a time of 1:38.46 to 1:40.37.

Bryant senior Laquav Brumfield took third in the 1-meter dive, scoring 161.95 points, with sophomore teammate Hunter Heatley sixth with 103.50.

Rolen took third in the

200 freestyle in a time of 2:17.08, with Eubanks fourth in a personal-record time of 2:21.17.

In the 200 IM, Archer took third with a PR of 2:41.50, with sophomore teammate Caden Payne fourth in 2:45.74.

Bryant returns to action Tuesday as the Lady Hornets travel to Conway, with the Hornets going to Conway on Thursday.
