Bauxite soccer picks up league wins
BAUXITE – The Bauxite Lady Miners soccer team was on a five-game win streak heading into 7-4A Conference play with Robinson in late March. Bauxite fell in that one,
2-1, but have since tied Morrilton 3-3 before picking up a 6-2 victory over Arkadelphia this past Tuesday and then taking a 4-0 shutout over Malvern Friday in Bauxite.
The two-game win streak puts the Lady Miners at 7-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 in conference play, dropping Malvern to 2-6-1, 0-4. Robinson leads the league at 4-0.
Against Arkadelphia, seniors Kate Duncan and
Danika King scored two goals apiece, with Duncan adding two assists as well. Senior Katlyn Shepard and sophomore Gracie Mcdade added a goal each, with freshman Stephanie Rico adding an assist.
Duncan, King (assist) and senior Samara Hernandez all scored a goal each in the tie with Morrilton, with Mcdade adding an assist, while Hernandez scored the lone goal against Robinson with Duncan providing the assist.
Just like the girls, the Bauxite boys had the exact route the past four matches, falling to Robinson 2-1, and tying Morrilton 1-1 before taking 2-0 and 2-0 victories over Arkadelphia Tuesday and Malvern Friday to improve to 5-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 in league action.
Juniors Luis Muniz and Roman Muniz scored the two goals in the 2-0 win over Arkadelphia, with sophomore Hunter Chatelain providing an assist. Roman Muniz scored the lone Bauxite goals in tie vs. Morrilton and loss to Robinson.
Bauxite returns to action Tuesday at home against Episcopal in nonconference play before hosting Robinson Friday in a rematch.
