Scrapperettes shut out Bauxite
NASHVILLE – The Bauxite Lady Miners have been busy this past week. After getting a 14-1 conference win two Fridays ago over Fountain Lake, the Lady Miners won their fourth and fifth straight games with victories over Bald Knob (6-4) and Lonoke (14-12) in a tournament in Lonoke before snapping the win streak with a 6-1 nonconference loss to Stuttgart this past Monday.
Bauxite (12-9, 6-4) got back on the winning track on Tuesday, shutting out Arkadelphia 3-0 before getting shut out themselves 4-0 in Nashville to the Scrapperettes in 7-3A Conference play Thursday, moved up from Friday’s originally scheduled contest.
The Lady Miners could manage just two hits against Nashville, but it was sophomore Carley Clark dominating Arkadelphia on Tuesday, pitching a one-hitter in the 3-0 win. Clark struck out seven without a walk, hitting a batter in a scoreless seven innings.
Scorless after three innings, the Lady Miners got some help from the Lady Badgers with two one-out errors preceding Clark’s 2-run double for the 2-0 lead after four.
Bauxite picked up its last run with some two-out magic in the fifth as sophomore Madalyn Ferrell hit a two-out double and scored on junior Haley Howard’s single to left to set the 3-0 final.
Clark and Howard both went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the win, with Jaycee Mcclellan, Ferrell and Katie Wells adding a hit apiece.
In their win over Lonoke on Saturday, the Lady Miners trailed 10-4 after three innings before picking up three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it a 10-9 deficit. Lonoke added a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 11-9, but the Lady Miners, down to their last inning, did not quit.
Singles by Clark, Kaci West and Mcclellan loaded the bases for sophomore Bryley Bowman. Bowman unloaded them with a grand slam to give the Lady Miners a 13-11 lead, which junior Bethany Harrell later made 14-11 with an RBI single.
Lonoke put runners on in the bottom of the inning, coming away with a one-out
RBI single, but a fly out, walk and pop out followed to clinch it.
Mcclellan went 4 for 4 with three runs, with Ferrell adding a 3-for-5 day with two runs and two RBIS. Bowman’s grand slam came with a 2-for-5 day with two runs and four RBIS, with West 2 for 4 with two runs and Howard 2 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. Clark added a hit and RBI, with Alyssa Hastings adding a hit.
The Lady Miners return home Monday, hosting Morrilton at 5 p.m.
