Orville Odell Mcpherson
Orville Odell Mcpherson, 90, Benton, went to his heavenly home on March 17, 2022. He was born on May 29, 1931 in Benton, Arkansas, the youngest of four boys to Sam and Ora Mcpherson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Ellis of Benton. Son, Sam Mcpherson (Susan) of Amarillo, Texas; daughters, Marilyn Rowland (Bob) and Sharilyn Mccallister (Eric) both of Benton. Nine grandchildren and spouses, 25 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Orville was a longtime member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. He served two tours of duty with the United States Navy. Orville retired from ALCOA in the late 80’s.
Orville was a passionate outdoorsman. As a hunter he killed many coons, deer, turkeys, duck, elk, and a bear not only for sport, but to also provide food for his family. Orville loved fishing. He has had many fishing partners over the years, he’d take anyone who would go. As a gardener, Orville provided vegetables and beautiful flowers for his family and friends to enjoy. He and his family would spend many hours harvesting and putting up vegetables to be used throughout the year. He made the best spicy pickles in the world! Over the years Orville has raised hunting dogs, turkeys, ducks, and chickens. He took his family on trips to the lake, Colorado, and many other states. Orville was able to go fishing with his son one last time in January. He did not catch anything that day, but that’s not always why he went fishing. He loved Jesus and raised his family in church and taught them to love and honor God in all they do. Everyone always had good things to say about Orville and he always had a smile and a fishing story to share.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 21, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church-benton.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 22, 10 a.m. at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church followed by burial at Mcpherson Cemetery on Salt Creek Rd.
