The Saline Courier Weekend

House of Rep. District 54

- Mary Bentley Rose Roland

Name: State Representative Mary Bentley

Why did you pursue the position you are running for?

I initially ran for State Representative in 2014 because I wanted to be a voice for small business and conservative values in Central Arkansas. I felt like the current legislature was not aware how the policies they implemented affected the ability for small businesses to thrive and expand, especially Arkansas manufacturers. I was also concerned about the low ratings our schools in Arkansas had in reading and science as well as the lack of true history being taught to our students.

What prior experience do you have that is applicable to this position? How do you plan to use this experience?

I have 7 years of experience as a State Representative, last session I sponsored and passed more bills than any other house member on a host of issues from religious freedom, protecting the life of the unborn to levee bills. I also passed a nurse midwife bill to improve our maternal and infant mortality rates in Arkansas. My experience as a business owner has been invaluable as a member of the Public Health and Labor Committee where we dealt with a host of issues during this pandemic from unemployment to PPP loans, mandates, and fines placed on businesses.

What plans do you have to improve Saline County/ your district?

I plan on continuing to lower taxes for all of my constituents. In the past 7 years we have lowered taxes by 1 billion dollars but there is still plenty of room to reduce spending and lower taxes. I am already working on legislation to reduce unnecessary burdens for those wanting to obtain a license to work or transfer that license from another state. I will continue to work on legislation to improve the maternal and infant mortality health in our state and improve health overall.

Why should you get the people’s vote/ What makes you a better choice than your opponent?

With all that is going on in Washington, D.C. I believe that now more than ever we need strong courageous conservative leaders in our state legislature. I have 7 years of experience in the State legislature, I am known, trusted, and respected by my colleagues at the Capitol and that is why I have been endorsed by each State Senator in my district. Getting things accomplished for my district will require their help. No matter where my constituents live in District 54 my experience will be able to make a positive difference in their lives, I have a proven track record to prove it.

Name: Rose Roland

Why did you pursue the position you are running for?

Currently, I am a JP in Faulkner County, I see how state level policies effect our Counties. Mine and my husband’s family have deep roots in the majority area of the district, these residents know me and know that I will stay connected with them and will work hard, they needed that from their state representative. It is my desire to build friendships with those from Saline County. We have shared values; we work hard and love our Country. So far, Saline County has felt like home, the people are great!

What prior experience do you have that is applicable to this position? How do you plan to use this experience?

My background is business, I have owned and operated small businesses my entire life, from an Oilfield Company, to Carwashes, restaurants, and rentals, I understand what drives our local economy and that is small business. I also understand people and how making a living has become very difficult for many. My desire is to work to attract more business (small and large) to Central Arkansas. I am tired of our children having to move off for good jobs. I use common sense to approach problems. I don’t jump to major decisions without trying to view a problem from all sides.

What plans do you have to improve Saline County/ your district?

While it appears that Saline already has much success, my area of

District 54 in Saline seems to be growing tremendously! With this growth, I will work with the County Judge when needed and build working relationships with those that understand the infrastructure my area.

Why should you get the people’s vote/ What makes you a better choice than your opponent?

I am a very approachable person that cares, I have built a reputation of being connected with the residents of my JP area as well as being connected to the counties I own businesses in which is Perry, Conway, Faulkner, Pope and Johnson Counties. With strong family values like the residents of Saline and I will never compromise those values and morals. I am pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, pro law enforcement & public safety, pro business, believe in governmental transparency, and lower taxes. I am trusted by many in my community as a proven conservative leader. I humbly ask for your vote!
