The Saline Courier Weekend

House Rep. District 92

- Julie Mayberry David Workman

Name: Julie Mayberry

Why did you pursue the position you are running for?

My husband, Andy, served in the legislature and I assisted him with constituent services, research on bills and policy, and bill presentations. Behind the scenes, I saw first-hand the difference it was making. God tells us to use our gifts to serve others and I believe that is what I am doing. My highest priority bill this past session was “No Patient Left Alone,” that helped patients receive care from a loved one in a nursing home, hospital or doctor’s office. We were the first state to pass such a law. This made a huge impact on Arkansas families.

What prior experience do you have that is applicable to this position? How do you plan to use this experience?

I am serving my third term as a State Representative. Passing legislation is an acquired skill. I believe my experience working with constituents, other legislators, government agencies, small/large businesses, non-profits, and other Arkansans to solve problems is a huge benefit.

I am also a small business owner, director and founder of two non-profits, and previous co-host of “Daybreak” on KATV. My journalism background has prepared me to ask the right questions to the right person, to understand there are many sides to a story, to simplify complicated solutions and communicate that information to the people who need to know.

What plans do you have to improve Saline County/ your district?

I filed an interim study proposal to analyze how remote work options for state employees could benefit the state with cost savings, rural Arkansas with job opportunities, and the worker with more time at home and less money spent on gas, food, and clothing. I am pushing for a state income tax cut for beginning farmers and those who have agricultural assets, improvements to our state’s home visiting program for new mothers, an increase in mental health professionals in our schools, career tech opportunities for high school students, and improvements to our state’s services for those with developmental disabilities.

Why should you get the people’s vote/ What makes you a better choice than your opponent?

I have a voting record to back up my statements. I have a 100% pro-life voting record and the endorsement of Arkansas Right to Life. I have an “A” rating and the endorsement of the N.R.A. I was one of only six legislators out of 135 to vote “no” on every tax increase in 2019. I will vote to protect your pocketbook and have the history to prove it. I have received the “Statesman Award” from Arkansas Family Council, the “Distinguished Legislator Award” from Arkansas Municipal League, and the “Business Matters Award” from the State Chamber.

Why did you pursue the position you are running for?

To make a difference. I believe serving in the legislature should be a service, not a career occupation. We need to keep Washington D.C. out of our great area. Now more than ever that is important. We are in a Republican area today but that does not mean everyone running is a true Republican. I am a fourthgeneration resident of this district, a small business owner, a land and timber owner, supporter of our second amendment rights and 100% pro-life. I am in touch with the values of this district.

What prior experience do you have that is applicable to this position? How do you plan to use this experience?

My business and career experience makes me a perfect candidate to represent the district. We need more business people serving in office today that understand the economic impacts of their decisions. I have been involved in starting several companies from the ground up and now employee over 100 people, most in Arkansas but many in other states as well. I started in a trade, worked my way through college at night and went to law school. My business experience coupled with my legal background make me an excellent choice at the right time to help this growing district.

What plans do you have to improve Saline County/ your district?

Look for all opportunities for job growth in our district. To look for tax breaks in our district to help our constituents fight inflation. Address immigration issues that may impact our district. Make sure our first responders are funded so they are equipped to do their work. Support career and technical education opportunities that are job specific to our district. Protect the values of our district from Washington and the Biden administration.

Why should you get the people’s vote/ What makes you a better choice than your opponent?

I need people to look at me and give me a chance. I am a fresh voice for the district with many different skills than my opponent. I understand economics from the business perspective that our government is lacking today. President Trump proved, when you have fresh voices who have grown businesses, our economy is stronger. I know the values of our district and can be counted on to vote on the issues, even the tough ones. I encourage voters to look at the choices, check voting records of the incumbent and make an informed decision on the best choice.
