Souper Bowl fundraiser back in person on Feb. 10
After holding a drive through version for the last two years, Habitat for Humanity of Saline County is bringing back its Souper Bowl fundraiser in person for 2023.
This year, it will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 the Benton First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.
“Souper Bowl is our annual fundraiser that we put together for our church partners in support of Apostles Build in the fall,” said Development Director Amy Kelly.
The churches provide teams for the Souper Bowl and encourage their members to purchase tickets.
Habitat has a mission of providing safe, affordable housing in Saline County.
Kelly expects more than 20 teams to compete in the Souper Bowl. They can enter soups or chili. She said in the past there have been a wide variety on offer from “famous” white chicken chili to cabbage soup and gumbo. She hopes for new varieties this year.
Diners will get a tray and go around the Christian Life Center collecting tasting cups of the different soups and chilis to sample. They are encouraged to tip for their favorites, which will also be how Habitat determines the people’s choice winner.
There will also be judges handing out awards.
Simmons Bank is the presenting sponsor and Irealty is the beverage sponsor.
Participating churches are providing the desserts.
Kelly said they are excited to back in person with donors, partners and supporters. She is also thankful for those who supported the smaller, curbside fundraisers Habitat has held over the last two years.
The competition is not just open to churches. Businesses can enter for $150 and individuals can enter for $100. Churches can either pay $80 or sell 10 tickets in advance.
Anyone interested in having a team can call Habitat at

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. They can be purchased by calling Habitat or through any of the partner churches.
Kelly thinks the event is a unique opportunity for people to network and interact.
“We are just happy to get everyone back together in support of Habitat,” Kelly said.
