The Saline Courier Weekend

Pittman; ‘Sky’s the limit’ for talented Hasz

- By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- While Arkansas has experienced some ups and downs this season a positive each game has been true freshman tight end Luke Hasz.

Hasz has caught nine passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. The former four-star recruit from Bixby (Okla.) High School chose the Hogs over Alabama, Oklahoma and others. Sam Pittman was asked if the sky is the limit for Hasz?

“It is,” Pittman said. “I mean, he’s a physical guy you know, almost to a fault. The other day I thought he could out-run the guy chasing him on the inside and he kind of waited on him so he could bang him, so he could hit him. And he ended up getting the first down.

“But yeah, I think those type of games he had he’ll just keep getting better. His blocking will get better. And we talk about how many plays he can play? Basically we want to play him however many plays as he can because he’s valuable to us and he catches everything. He’s done a really, really good (job). That’s a freshman out there that’s doing a good job.”

He had four receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown in the loss to

BYU. He talked about the atmosphere and playing well even in a loss.

“It was a great feeling,” Pittman said. “We had a great atmosphere at the game on Saturday night, there were a lot of people there. I think it was almost over capacity, so it was great to see all the fans out there. It was great to get out there and get some confidence going, but we’re excited for this week.”

Hasz knows the Hogs will face a very good defense on Saturday night when they take on LSU.

“They’re really good,” Hasz said. “They’re really fast, physical. They have a great defense.”

For Hasz, LSU will be his first road game.

“Oh, I’m excited,”

Hasz said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere. There’s going to be a lot of people, and it being a night game is going to be really special as well. I’m definitely excited this is my first one.”

In addition to Hasz’s first road game, it will also be his first college game where his team is coming off a loss.
