October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month in which we celebrate and recognizes individual­s the entire month of October. Mayor Tom Farmer will be reading a proclamati­on at the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services Arkansas Rehabilita­tion Services office at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct 10. The office is located at 1115 Ferguson Drive in Benton.

October 14

The second annual Saline County Pridefest will bring fun, food, and more are coming to Tyndall

Park in Benton from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The event will feature musical performanc­es, food trucks, vendors and lots of fun for all ages!. Saline County Pridefest was establishe­d in 2022, in order to give everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community, plus any and all friends, a safe space to come together to celebrate love, diversity, and inclusion. Central Arkansas Developmen­t

Council will distribute USDA Commoditie­s in Saline County on Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. Distributi­on will begin at 9 a.m. In Saline County, Commoditie­s will be distribute­d at the Benton Senior Activity Center (1800 Citizens Drive, Benton, AR 72015, Phone: 501-315-0645) and the Bryant Senior Activity Center (6401 Boone Rd. #3, Bryant, AR 72022; Phone: 501-9430056). Food Items May Include: Applesauce, Raisins, Spinach, Carrots, Green Beans, Mixed Vegetables, Tomato Soup., Dry Pinto Beans, Peanut Butter,

Spaghetti, Rice, Salmon. Must meet income guidelines. All customers receiving commoditie­s must present identifica­tion. Photo ID preferred.

October 21

Benton Parks and Recreation will host the first Jeepers Halloween 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 21. The event starts with race check-in at noon. The Fun Run starts at 1 p.m. and the 5K starts at 2 p.m. Runners are encouraged to suit up in their best Halloween costume to compete for prizes. Cost is $25 until Oct. 4, $30 after Oct. 4 and $35 on day of race.

The Jeepers Halloween Treat Fest will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. The event features the costume fun run and 5K, loads of candy for the kids, pumpkin bowling, bounce houses and a decorated Jeep display.

October 28

The 12th annual Arkansas Paranormal Expo, a benefit for Mcarthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, and Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Mcarthur Museum, 503 E. Ninth, in Little Rock. Cost is $10 per day, children under 12 are free. Due to the increased interest of the paranormal the Arkansas Paranormal Expo was founded to give people the opportunit­y to experience keynote speakers and local experts on subjects such Bigfoot, UFO’S, Ghost Hunting, Psychic Phenomena and new this year Exorcisms. Since 2011 we have raised over $50,000.00 for the museum. There will be vendors outside and inside the museum, food trucks, raffle and psychic readings available.
