Strike a pose

-

THE “BEAUTY MARK” ON THE left side of Zamira’s face has earned her a nickname worthy of a supermodel. She’s the Cindy Crawford of Cat World. Unlike her nickname namesake, however, Zamira wasn’t inclined to show much of her face. When she first came to the Sanctuary, she hid away from people so often and so well that she was considered for a working cat program. That would have given her the chance to live life in an environment (such as a barn or a warehouse) where she’d be looked after by people, but would not be expected to snuggle up and befriend them.

Then Zamira had a change of heart. She started coming down from the rafters and hanging out in what became known as her “biscuit basket” — a blue plastic basket where she likes to curl up and sleep on a cozy fleece blanket. At first, she was wary when people approached her, but then she started making biscuits (kneading) when they talked sweetly to her. Eventually, she allowed folks to pet her. Now, she will warm up to anyone after a brief introduction, and people are seeing a lot more of her gorgeous face. Go on, Cindy Claw-ford
