PASSING OF TWO VICKTORY DOGS

-

I was saddened to read of the passing of Meryl and Cherry, two wonderful Vicktory dogs (May/June 2020 issue). I served as an animal caretaker at Virginia Beach Animal Control during the time when a number of the Vick dogs were brought to the facility for care and treatment.

I remember Cherry in particular. He was a puppy then — a lovable, unforgettable puppy. I used to love to sit with him in his kennel when time allowed. He would immediately flatten himself to the floor, though, when anyone came close to him. And yet, his tail still wagged. His submissiveness was a symptom of how deeply he’d been hurt and traumatized before he was rescued from the horror he’d experienced.

And then came the representatives from Best Friends, who spent days assessing the Vick dogs in our care. I was so impressed by their kindness and concern for the dogs. I was sad to see Cherry go, but also very happy because I knew he was on his way to a much better life. Thank you to Best Friends for bringing out Cherry’s true loving nature, and thank you to his family, Paul and Melissa, who gave him the wonderful home he deserved. I am so sorry for your loss.
