The comeback kitty

-

AS MAXINE CHASES WAND TOYS and hops from perch to perch, it’s hard to imagine that there was a time when she didn’t move much at all. When she first came to the Sanctuary, she barely left her bed. That’s because she wasn’t in very good shape. The poor girl’s feet hurt from being declawed in a previous home, and she was overweight.

It took small, slow baby steps to get Maxine up and moving around. Caregivers started her on a healthy diet and pain meds, along with a generous daily dose of TLC. And then, as Maxine started feeling more comfortable on her feet, she got to go on walks outside, feeling the warm sand between her toes. She loved it!

These days, Maxine is jogging around her room, leaping up onto counters and pouncing on her favorite toys. And when she’s lounging on a bed, it’s more likely that this fit kitty is doing some yoga stretches rather than being a couch potato. No, those days are over.
