Speedy snail mail

WHEN YOU CAN’T MEET someone you love in person, what’s the next best thing? Well, nine-year-old Ella Bogh wanted to tell Speedy, a special donkey at the Sanctuary, how much she loved him. She couldn’t visit in person (and — get this — donkeys don’t have phones), so she drew a picture, wrote a note and mailed it to him. Ella asked Speedy to be her pen pal.

Because donkeys don’t have thumbs either, caregiver Julia Sbragia helped Speedy write a response to his new friend. He may be named Speedy, but it turns out the best (and cutest) way for a donkey to say “I love you” is through snail mail.
