Just what the doctor ordered

-

A WILDFIRE THAT STARTED in Veyo, Utah, quickly grew out of control in the windy, dry weather and burned through about 3,000 acres as firefighters fought to contain it. In the midst of evacuations, three stray cats were scooped up by a good Samaritan and brought to the Best Friends Animal Clinic at the Sanctuary.

Of the three, James had the most extensive injuries, with singed fur and burns covering most of his face and body. But he didn’t let that dampen his spirits. Throughout his treatment, his top priorities were “making biscuits” (alternate kneading from left to right paw), purring up a storm and, whenever he had the chance, trying to climb into the laps, arms and hearts of clinic staff.

The other two cats left the clinic first, off to be adopted, but James needed a little more TLC. For the last stretch of his recovery, James went home with clinic veterinarian Dr. Colleen. And he quickly made himself quite comfortable there. They go on adventures outside (with James in a cute little harness), play with all sorts of toys and, of course, snuggle a lot. James likes nothing better than perching on Dr. Colleen’s shoulders and providing surround-sound purring. She seems to enjoy it, too. In fact, she has decided to adopt him. Turns out, home is just what the doctor ordered.
