KITTEN LENDS A HELPING PAW TO HER BLIND BROTHER

-

Life is always easier when you have a friend. Two kittens figured that out when they were just a few weeks old and both lost all or most of their eyesight. Cosmo and Wanda came to Best Friends in New York with terrible eye infections, and even though veterinarians prescribed antibiotic eye drops right away, the damage was done.

The kittens were safe in a foster home and beginning to feel better with each passing day when their foster caregiver noticed that Cosmo, who’s completely blind, relies on Wanda, who has limited vision. When he felt lost, Cosmo would call out with tiny meows to his sister. Wanda would come to his rescue, trotting over to him so he could follow her around. That’s how they grew up, together, and once they were getting medical care and lots of love, they thrived.

Then, best of all, the kittens were adopted — together. There are two other cats in their new home, and Cosmo and Wanda have fit right in. With Wanda to show him the way, Cosmo has gained confidence, and he no longer gets lost and stranded.

Today, he loves catnip toys, and Wanda is ruler of the household, playing chase with her new brothers, much to their delight (and hers).

Yes, when you have a good friend to show you the way — literally and figuratively — life can be a whole lot of fun.

Wanda would come to his rescue, trotting over to him so he could follow her around.
