NEW ONLINE TOOL MAKES IT EASY FOR THOUSANDS TO SPEAK UP FOR ANIMALS

The Best Friends 2025 Action Team is made up of more than 27,000 members, and they take the word “action” seriously. Who joins this grassroots change-making tour de force? People who care about animals and want to make lasting change to save them.

Initially, much of that work involved going door-to-door to connect with the community, but when the pandemic took hold, that kind of advocacy came to a halt. So, like so many over the last year, we dug deep and ultimately launched a new online tool to make it easy to create change without leaving home.

People began creating new petitions and collecting signatures as soon as the tool appeared on the Best Friends website. It wasn’t long before 2025 Action Team members were racking up hundreds, sometimes thousands, of signatures in support of real issues facing animals. One petition in Los Angeles, for example, received more than 4,500 signatures, helping in the effort to allow trapneuter-return for cats there. The petitions also are easy to translate into Spanish, resulting in participation from thousands more animal lovers.

Now more than ever, people are self-starting — creating their own petitions to help animals, without prompting from Best Friends’ legislation and advocacy staff. It gets back to the roots of grassroots advocacy, making a difference one signature at a time.
