MASTER THE CLOSET

Better Homes & Gardens - - Food -

Best friends Clea Shearer and

Joanna Teplin of

thehomeedit.com use these strategies when organizing closets.

1 STACK YOUR SHOES

To maximize shelf space (as in, hold more shoes), use acrylic shoeboxes. They also help eliminate scuffs and dust.

2 BRING ON THE BASKETS

If your closet doesn’t have drawers, use lined baskets for shorts, workout clothes, pj’s, T-shirts, socks, and underwear.

3 SWAP WITH THE SEASONS

Separate clothes by season into bins. Place one on a high shelf, one in reach. Rotate them as the weather changes.

4 ABIDE BY THE ONEYEAR RULE

If you haven’t worn something in the past year, there’s a good chance you never will. Donate it or give it away.
