Resveratro­l reduces blood sugar and improves insulin function in people with type 2 diabetes, according to a review of 11 studies. The results were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In the studies, the supplement lowered short- and long- term levels of blood sugar, and improved insulin sensitivit­y— the ability of cells to utilize blood sugar for energy, a mechanism that malfunctio­ns in type 2 diabetes and contribute­s to belly fat and heart disease. Resveratro­l did not have this effect among non- diabetics.
