COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Agrilife presented Jordan Herrin, Texas A&M Forest Service District Forester, with the 2019 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Public Service. Throughout his nine years of service to Texas A&M Forest Service, Herrin has masterfully navigated challenges and responsibilities beyond his job description, establishing himself as a leader in the agency.

“Jordan makes great contributions and is one of the best we have to offer. He is very deserving and worthy to receive the 2019 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence – Public Service in Forestry,” said Joel Hambright, Texas A&M Forest Service Regional Forester.

Herrin leads rural and urban forestry programs that equip Texas landowners with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed forest management decisions. He leads conservation education initiatives, manages state lands and continuously pursues opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the state agency, often by implementing new technologies.

Herrin has been on many fire assignments both in and out-of-state and recently became qualified as a National Wildfire Coordinating Group Task Force Leader and Incident Commander Type 4. In 2018, he served as a member of the Southern Area Red Team as a Geographic Information System Specialist.

Herrin recently transferred from the Texas A&M Forest Service Huntsville District to the Hudson District, a location considered a main hub within the agency. He retains a leadership role both in the Huntsville and Livingston Districts, balancing his time between all three locations to ensure all goals are met.

Herrin regularly uses his technical forestry skills as one of the agency’s primary auditors for timber cruising on state lands. The audits help the agency maintain a high degree of confidence in the stewardship of these lands and ensure that the state gets fair valuations on its managed timber.

“His professionalism and knowledge are equally respected as other foresters routinely contact Jordy to discuss the timber cruising specs to comprehend the agency’s high standards,” said Jacob Donellan, Texas A&M Forest Service Regional Forester.

Herrin graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and started his career with Texas A&M Forest Service in 2011. He is currently serving as the 2019 Chair of the Texas Society of American Foresters, and he
