Polititaco Tuesdays continue at Howard College
Polititaco Tuesdays – hosted by Big Spring High School, Howard County Library and Howard College Anthony Hunt Library - are continuing next week, with the fourth session, at Howard College Library. The voter education forum this week is set to take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the community is invited. The focus will be a Question and Answer Ses
sion with the candidates.
“We wanted to do everything we can to prepare our students and community members for the upcoming elections,” said Jill Defore, Librarian. “So many of them are unsure of the process and it is our responsibility to educate them about their right to vote and what they can expect on election day.”
Last week, the forum focused on “Who/what’s on the Ballot?” and a few of the candidates were on hand to meet with attendees. The conversation was
one-on-one based and City Council Candidates Cody Hughes and Nadine Reyes were on hand as well as County Commissioner candidate Shiloh Salazar.
According to the press release issued last week about the forums, all attendees are required to sign in, wear a mask, and be screened with a hands-free temperature check as they enter the library. Howard College students can attend the event virtually if they prefer.
Everyone who signs in will automatically be entered to win a drawing for one of three taco night party packages, one of which includes a television.
“We received two separate grants to help us fund this project which allowed us to create the prize packages and entice people to come out and educate themselves about the voting process and get their voting related questions answered,” said Defore.
The final session will take place on Oct. 27 and will focus on Voting Walk
Through. The community
is invited to attend.
