Chamber of Commerce happenings ...

The Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce annual Banquet and Business Expo is going virtual. The event is scheduled for Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m. While the event may still be a couple of weeks away, activity has already started taking place on the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, in preparatio­n for the event.

For those who have not yet followed the Chamber Facebook page, but are interested in more details about the upcoming Chamber Banquet and Expo, there is

The networking event which is hosted on an annual basis, due to the pandemic, is taking on a different platform this year, but will be offering the same opportunit­y for recognitio­n in the community and focus on highlighti­ng the accomplish­ments in the Big Spring and Howard County communitie­s.

“Although our format may look different for the annual Chamber Banquet our purpose still remains; promote and celebrate our members,: Manny Negron, Banquet Committee Co-chair, said.

The 2021 Chamber Banquet and Business Expo will still include normal business such as the passing of the gavel from the outgoing Chamber Board President Mark Richardson to the incoming Chamber Board President Kristy Tyra; an opportunit­y to recognize the Man and Woman of the Year, Russ Mcewen Community Service recipient and those 5 Under 55 individual­s.

Earlier this week, the Man and Woman of the Year were announced on the Chamber of Commerce Facebook as well. A small personal ceremony for each was held at the Chamber Offices with each honoree surrounded by a few family members.

The presentati­ons will be included in the Feb. 11 event.

The announceme­nt for this year’s 5 Under 55 which will be the second round of recipients - has not yet been announced.
