City of Stanton to meet Monday
The City of Stanton Council will meet for a regular meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located at 102 W. School Street.
The meeting will open with a public hearing for planning and zoning. Three properties will be up for discussion: Chris Barnhill with 1000 W. Broadway, 135 x 120 southwest corner, block 7, Stokes Addition; Thomas Juarez with 510 S. St. Peter, lot 5 block 91, original town; and Glen Evans with 504 W. Mason, lot 8 block 5, Park Place Addition.
There will be five minutes allotted for public comments and once comments have concluded the public hearing will close and the regular meeting will begin.
The Council meeting will begin with a time for public comment.
Next on the agenda will include approval of the April 12, 2021, minutes. Council members will then consider and possibly take action on canvassing the May 1, 2021, City Election.
Once the canvassing has been completed the unopposed candidates will be sworn in. Candidates include Steven Villa, District 4 and Danny Fryar, at-large seat.
Once the new members have taken their seat, the Council will move to consideration and possible action regarding an ordinance denying Oncor’s proposed rate change.
There will be consideration for authorization for the City to issue request for proposals (RFP) for electricity/broker provide and for demolishing of structure at 510 N. St. Mary.
The Council members will look at the application process for benefits/fundraisers to be held at City Park.
Discussion will also surround a Resolution 1485B, the City of Stanton, Texas authorizing an expenditure in the amount not to exceed $24,020 for the purpose of economic development funding through the Stanton Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Sale Tax Revenue for the Martin County Chamber of Commerce. This will be the first reading presented by the SEDC Executive Director.
The Council will consider reports from City Administrator and Chief of Police, and take action on April 2021 bills before the meeting adjourns.
