This week's reviews are large print fiction and mystery books.

Miss Janie is at the end of a long and full life, but she has no intention of crossing that finish line until she's found her girls in Miss Janie’s Girls (LP F BRO C) by Brown, Carolyn. It has been ten years since Teresa and Kayla shook off the dust of Birthright, Texas, went their separate ways, and never looked back. Apart from their foster mom, Miss Janie, they don't have many fond memories of their hometown. Or of each other. Still, neither can forget the kind woman who opened her home and heart to two teenagers in need.

Trevor Benson never intended to move back to New Bern, NC in The Return (LP F SPA N) by Nicholas Sparks. When a mortar blast outside the hospital where he worked as an orthopedic surgeon sent him home from Afghanistan with devastating injuries, the dilapidated cabin he inherited from his grandfather seemed as good a place to regroup as any. Tending to his grandfather's beloved bee hives while gearing up for a second stint in medical school, Trevor isn't prepared to fall in love with a local. Yet, from their very first encounter, his connection with Natalie Masterson can't be ignored. But even as she seems to reciprocate his feelings, she remains frustratingly distant, making Trevor wonder what she's hiding. Further complicating his stay in New Bern is the presence of a sullen teenage girl, Callie, who lives in the trailer park down the road from his grandfather's cabin. Claiming to be 19, she works at the local sundries store and keeps to herself. When he discovers she was once befriended by his grandfather, Trevor hopes Callie can shed light on the mysterious circumstances of his grandfather's death, but she offers few clues until a crisis triggers a race that will uncover the true nature of Callie's past, one more intertwined with the elderly man's passing than Trevor could ever have anticipated. In his quest to unravel Natalie and Callie's secrets, Trevor will learn the true meaning of love and forgiveness and that in life, to move forward, we must often return to the place where it all began.

James Lionel Falconer has risen quickly from a mere shop worker to being the right-hand man of Henry Malvern, head of the most prestigious shipping company in London in In the Lion’s Den (LP F BRA B) by Barbara Taylor Bradford. With Malvern's daughter Alexis running away to the country after a terrible tragedy and refusing to return, James' ascent to head of the company seems inevitable. But even a charmed life like James' is not without its setbacks. A terrible fire threatens to end his merchant career before it's had a chance to truly begin. Mrs. Ward, James' former paramour, has a secret that could change his life forever. And his distaste for Alexis Malvern is slowly growing into feelings of quite a different sort. Can James continue to be the master of his own fate, or will all of his charm, intelligence, and wit finally fail him when he has to enter the lion's den?

Detective John Hooper, William Monk's righthand man at the Thames River Police, has fallen in love with Celia, the cousin of the victim in their most recent murder case in A Christmas Resolution (LP M PER A) by Anne Perry. Now Celia has discovered that the man her good friend plans to marry this Christmas is far from what he seems. His first marriage ended with his wife walking into the sea, not of her own accord, and Celia hopes Hooper can help show her friend the truth.

But Celia herself has not always been truthful, especially not in the murder trial following her cousin's death. How can she be believed now when she lied on the stand?

With Christmas fast approaching and both Celia and her friend's lives on the line, Hooper must put his own moral code to the test
