Comedians Crawford and Shields to perform in DAV benefit show Sunday evening

- By AMANDA DUFORAT Managing Editor

Laughter is good for the soul, and this coming Sunday it will also be good for the local Chapter 47 DAV in Big Spring. Two members of the Veterans of Comedy will be returning to Big Spring on Sept. 5 for a show at The Desert Flower.

“What we do is entertain and make people laugh, but the foundation that is built upon is to do what we can to help the troops, those who fight for our freedoms,” Comedian Chris Crawford said.

The show will last about 90 minutes and will feature Chris Crawford and Michael Shields – both members of Veterans of Comedy – and will be hosted by Jenni Moore. Crawford encourages those who will be attending to arrive around 9:30 p.m. in order to ensure they are able to get a seat. The venue is limited seating.

“The night is going to be a good one filled with laughter and offer an opportunity to support a great organization,” Crawford said. “We are thankful to those who support the local DAV, local veterans and to Kbest and Adrienne Green for helping us in supporting veterans.”

Recently, Crawford and Shields were part of a fundraiser at the VFW focused on raising funds for the local DAV Chapter and ended up raising a little over $1,400 to help local veterans.

“Part of our charge is to anytime we can to perform for the benefit of the troops, both past and present and the communities they live in,” Crawford

said. “The DAV extended a huge welcome to us at the recent fundraiser, and their mission and what they do means so much to the veterans, we wanted to help them out. The service they provide isn’t something that can be replicated by any other organization around, not in our area anyway.”

DAV is a non-profit charity that offers support for local veterans through means of assistance with utilities, support in life events such as house fires, home repairs, and meeting basic needs of day to day life. In addition, the local DAV chapter provides holiday meals for veterans housed in the domiciliary and CLC at the West Texas VA Medical Center. In addition, the local chapter provides monthly birthday parties for veterans at Lamun-lusk-sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. Also, on an annual basis, the DAV hosts the Dove Hunt and the 9-11 Memorial Service. The past couple of years, the DAV of Big Spring has not been able to conduct their annual Forget-menot fundraiser, due to the pandemic. The support from area businesses and local organizations has helped fill in the gap and helped the local chapter continue to meet the needs of veterans.
