County to hear electricity rate presentation
At their regular meeting Monday, Howard County Commissioners will hear a presentation by David Quin regarding current contract negotiations and anticipated future electricity rates.
The commissioners will first meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the second-floor conference room of the Howard County Courthouse, 300 S. Main St., for a workshop; before reconvening at 3:30 p.m. in thec third-floor courtroom for their regular session.
At the start of the meeting, County Treasurer Sharon Adams will present personnel considerations and an update to the county's direct deposit policy in the Employee Handbook. Adams will also present her monthly Payroll Report for January.
Quin's presentation is the first item listed on the agenda during County Auditor Jackie Olson's portion of the meeting. Other items Olson will present include financial reports, invoices, purchase requests and budget amendments.
Howard County Librarian Mavour Braswell will address the commissioners regarding the ongoing proposal that Big Spring High School art students be allowed to paint a mural on a small outbuilding of the Howard County Library. The item has been presented at the two previous commissioners' meetings, and has been tabled each time due to concerns over safety of the students and potential impact on parking space near the building. At the two previous meetings, librarian Sandra Verdin has presented the item in Braswell's place.
Commissioner Craig Bailey (Precinct 2) will present a contract discussion for discussion and possible action; no information is available regarding the parties of the contract.
Commissioner John Cline (Precinct 4) will present an item for discussion over project planning in a workshop.
County Road Engineer Brian Klinksiek will present an item regarding campaign signs in the right-of-way of Howard County roads. Klinksiek will also present three bid items on road work on Salem Road, County Road 54, and County Road 36, and ask commissioners to accept the low bids on each project. Klinksiek will also ask commissioners to approve a change order to correct quantities on the County Road 36 project.
Klinksiek will also present his Roadway Maintenance Update.
County Clerk Brent Zitterkopf will present his monthly report for January, and the meeting will be adjourned.
