HC trustees meeting Monday

The Howard County Junior College District Board of Trustees will meet Monday for their regular monthly meeting. Board members will begin their day with an executive session at 10 a.m., followed by lunch and the regular open meeting at 12:30 p.m.

During the executive session, Big Spring Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n Executive Director Mark Willis will address the board regarding a economic developmen­t prospect and activity on economic developmen­t projects. The board will also discuss cabinet leadership.

During the regular meeting, following the invocation and recognitio­n of guests, the board will consider approval of routine matters, including minutes of the Feb. 28 regular meeting, financial statements for February, monthly reports of auxiliary services, personnel matters, and an internal audit report.

In New Business, the board will hear its 23rd COVID-19 Response Status report, including the status of the Open Howard College plan. The board will also hear recommenda­tions for cabinet positions at the college.

The board will hear a proposal regarding an honorary degree.

The board will consider performanc­e measures and outcomes, including performanc­e excellence and small class reports.

During the Monitoring portion of New Business, the board will consider the progress on the seal coat project at the Southwest College for the Deaf being conducted through an interlocal agreement with the City of Big Spring.

The board will also hear a report on the exterior building painting project at the Big Spring campus and consider a routine item regarding the Texas Associatio­n of School Boards Interlocal Participat­ion Agreement for Risk Management Coverage Programs.

The board may discuss handbook and catalog changes and new positions, followed by updates of constructi­on and renovation projects including: Big Spring and SWCD Roof Project updates; Library and Music Buildings renovation update; and an update on the SWCD Diagnostic Center abatement and demolition. The board will hear an update on the Student Informatio­n System Project's implementa­tion. College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks will report on upcoming activities and recognitio­ns. During the Board Education and Developmen­t portion of the meeting, the board will hear legislativ­e and general updates, as well as a presentati­on on Building a Talent Strong Texas/texas Higher Education 2022-2030 Strategic Plan.

The board will have an opportunit­y to evaluate the meeting and suggest agenda items for future meetings. Board Chairman Dr. John Freeman will have an opportunit­y to present a report, after which the meeting will be
