“Better Call Saul” (AMC — season premiere, April 18)
When this acclaimed drama premiered it 2015, it was (accurately) touted as a spinoff and prequel of the critically adored “Breaking Bad,” but it didn’t take this series — which chronicles the complicated emotional journey of attorney Jimmy Mcgill (Bob Odenkirk) — long to make its own mark. Since then, “Saul” has earned a Peabody Award, 21 Primetime Emmys and a shelfful of other accolades. Now, the series opens its sixth and final season, which will air in two parts. Rhea Seehorn, Jonathan Banks and Giancarlo Esposito also return.
“Freddie Mercury: The Final Act” (The CW — new special, April 20)
This new documentary chronicles the final professional chapter in the life of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, including how his friends and band colleagues staged an unforgettable tribute concert at Wembley Stadium after Mercury died from AIDS. The film, which airs here on the 30th anniversary of the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, features extensive footage from that epic musical event, as well as behind-the scenes rehearsal footage and interviews with Mercury’s Queen colleagues Brian May and Roger Taylor.
