Check your pulse. Check your temperature. Check you balance… you name it, there just might be information on it at the upcoming Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce annual Health Fair. The health fair is set for April 23 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Downtown Main Street.

“Last year, in an effort to offer the health fair and keep attendees, along with those involved, safe, we moved the health fair outdoors,” Debbye Valverde, Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, said. “This year we decided that the change of scenery was a welcome one: so, we continued with the outdoor venue.”

The 2022 Health Fair is focusing on the mind, body and soul and will be hosted through the support of numerous local businesses, organizations and health care service providers. We are grateful for health care providers including Scenic Mountain Medical Center, Lamun-lusk-sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, Affordacare Urgent Care. There are more than 35 booths signed up for the event, in addition, many of the Corporate Sponsors are returning for another year.

“We can't say thank you enough to all those in the community, especially our members, who offer their loyal support to the Chamber and all the activities we do throughout the year,” Valverde said. “Our sponsors - at all levels - truly do make the difference in being able to host an event or not host an event. We are grateful for their support, but we are even more thankful for the opportunity it provides our community; the annual health fair is a one stop resource for health care needs, information and providers.”

Families are encouraged to attend. This year's health fair will include a kid's obstacle course along with an opportunity to take home some goodies. Food trucks attending the event will include Sealed in Sweetness, as well as It Don't Matter Baby. The bloodmobile will once again be joining and

providing an opportunity for those wanting to donate blood.

“The past couple of years the blood supply has been said to be dealing with a shortage. This is an opportunity to do your part and donate blood and possibly save a life. There is a way for those wanting to donate to go online and register for an appointment, but walk ins will also be accepted as availability allows,” she said.

Those who are needing to gather information regarding future planning will be able to visit with representatives from Interim Health Care, St. Joseph's Home Health, Marcy Place, Parkview Rehab, and Big Spring Center for Skilled Care.

“Not only are these organizations and businesses supporting locals, but they are serving their families, friends and community in the process,” Valverde said. “We are excited to see all of our sponsors back for another year. While many of our sponsors and booths are healthcare related, we have those local businesses who offer support that makes this gathering possible. Expedition Royalty, Oncor, Star Chrysler Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and JB Graphics have been great partners over the past several years, along with our media sponsors KBST and KBYG.”

Valverde continued, “The annual health fair is an opportunity where health care providers come together to ensure their community is taken care of. If you are needing to find local resources pertaining to health care or just plan for the future regarding healthcare services, this is one of the best ways to gather that information.”

There is no cost to attend the health fair. A few of the participating booths will be offering screenings, based on availability.
