Forsan goes blue
To raise awareness about Child Abuse
This week at Forsan ISD the students and faculty has decided to participatet in spreading awareness about child abuse. According to statistics, every 47 seconds a child is neglected or abused, roughly 3 million children impacted each year.
Abuse comes in many forms; neglect is one of the most common, about 90% of children know their physical abuser; and aproximently 30% know who their sexual abuser. Statistics reflect that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18, and 12% will speak out about what has happened to them.
Child Abuse is one of the things most would like to believe doesn’t exist in their community. However, the truth of the matter is that it does exist. Child Abuse is a statistic that can be impacted when a community
comes together; it can be stopped. A community can stand up as a unified front and be the voice for those who feel they don’t have a voice.
“Child Abuse Awareness is not something anyone wants to talk about, but it’s an issue that needs to be talked about. Blue Ribbon Week offers a way for teachers, students, families and communities to bring up an uncomfortable topic with the goal of sparking change. Together we can make a difference. Together we can be the voice that is heard and brings change,” a teacher at Forsan High school said.
Students and staff alike joined in the different themes throughout the week. The days were as follows:
Monday: wear your clothes backwards day
Tuesday: where your neon day Wednesday: Pajama day Thursday: Twin day
Friday: Wear blue day
