HC Board to consider tax abatement guidelines

The Howard County Junior College District Board of Trustees will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the Fireplace Room of the Student Union Building at Howard College. Alternativ­ely, members of the public can listen in on the meeting by telephone at 1-888-204-5987 by using the Access Code 3148424# .

At the start of the meeting, the board will hold a public hearing regarding tax abatement guidelines and criteria.

Following the public hearing, the board will hear communicat­ions from the public before moving on to approval of routine matters, including minutes of the March 28 regular meeting, financials for March, monthly reports of auxiliary services, personnel matters, and the internal audit report.

In New Business, the board will consider tax abatement guidelines, including a resolution on the matter.

College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks will present an update on the college's response to COVID -19.

The board will also hear matters on Student Debt measures, tuition and fee comparison­s, and student roundtable reports.

The board will hear purchasing items regarding food service, vending services for the college's Lamesa and San Angelo campuses, and asbestos abatement and demolition at the college's Library and Music Building and the Diagnostic Center at the Southwest College for the Deaf.

The board will hear items on an associate of applied science degree for Registered Medical Assistants, continuing education for Pharmacy Technician­s through Workforce Training, and Handbook and Catalog changes.

The board will consider faculty contracts and new positions, as well as resolution­s related to faculty retirement.

The board will also consider nomination­s for Professor Emeritus honors.

The board will consider constructi­on and renovation projects, including project updates and change orders on the roof project at the Big Spring and SWCD campuses. The board will also hear an update on the renovation of the Library and Music Building.

The board will hear an update on the implementa­tion of the new Student Informatio­n System.

Dr. Sparks will give her regular update, including informatio­n about upcoming activities and recognitio­ns.

The board will hear updates on legislativ­e matters and general items.

The board will consider an evaluation of the meeting and future agenda items before adjourning.
