National Day of Prayer at SMMC
Where two or three are gathered ... Howard County residents joined together Thursday evening in front of Scenic Mountain Medical Center for the National Day of Prayer.
The local hospital hosted, as it has for the past several years, a chance for local pastors to join with the community in prayer.
"This is an opportunity for us, as a community, to stand united in prayer. An opportunity to display hope and unity even in trying times," April Arms, SMMC Executive Assistant, said.
The National Day of Prayer is observed each year on the first Thursday of May.
"Today, local pastors and officials from city, county, hospital, and school districts came together to pray for the wellbeing of Howard County," Arms said. "We are thankful to the local pastors, the Big Spring High School Band, H-E-B who donated cookies, and the community for supporting us in this annual event."
The evening gathering was opened by a performance from the Big Spring High School Steer Band and a short introduction by Chief Nursing Officer Melonye Huber. Prayers were started by Pastor Lloyd Wells from Spring Creek
Fellowship, followed by Pastor Michael Willard from Cornerstone Covenant Church, Pastor Bobby Roever from Alive in Christ Lutheran Church, and Pastor Sam Segundo from Family Faith Center. Each of the pastors offered up prayers for protection, guidance and healing throughout Howard County.
"It was an evening filled with prayer for all in our community. We are grateful and thankful to those who came out and joined in that prayer. We appreciate the fellowship and support," Arms said.
The Big Spring Band provided music in between prayers providing a melody and tone for event.
