There’s no ‘Match’ for Baldwin this time

-

Q: Given the news of recent months concerning Alec Baldwin, will “Match Game” be back this summer? – Joel Rogers, via email

A: Apparently not. It isn’t on ABC’S roster of returning game shows, and that’s not all that surprising under the circumstances. Baldwin would have had to have been making new episodes recently as both host and executive producer, and anyone who keeps up with the news knows that he has had other concerns. From the network’s standpoint, it’s also a matter of whether it wants to showcase a Baldwin who appears lighthearted and wisecracking – which is his “Match Game” persona – while he’s involved off-camera in other matters widely known to be deeply serious. The show always could come back with someone else presiding over it, as Baldwin did in succeeding Gene Rayburn, but that doesn’t appear to be in the

cards for the immediate future.

Q: Will “Billions” be back for another season? I thought I heard it would be, but after the latest season finale, nothing was said about it on the air. – Don Wallis, via email

A: Yes, it will return to Showtime for another round ... and since nothing of it has been filmed yet, that’s probably why nothing was shown. However, you can bank on – spoiler alert! – the presidential aspirations of tycoon Mike Prince (played by Corey Stoll) getting a big focus. Chuck Rhoades’ (Paul Giamatti) fate has gone in the opposite direction, which is known to happen on “Billions,” but don’t count on it staying

that way forever.
