- By PATRICK GONZALES

How many times have you been wanting to go out with friends and family to have some recreational shooting fun, but no place to go? What about throwing some axes? Well, the answer to those questions has been found. Big Star Shooters Inc. and Jack Axes, located at 110 West Pace Ave in Coahoma, will offer everyone the opportunity to come out and have a unique experience and fun!

Big Star Shooters Inc. and Jack Axes have been open for some time now. They held their ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday at 11 a.m. and will celebrate their official grand opening on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and try their hand at axe throwing on one of their six lanes or have some shooting fun using their state-of-the-art indoor shooting range. There will also be a coffee truck, food truck, and live music with the band Parkside taking the stage at 6 p.m.

You’re probably wondering

how did an indoor shooting and axe throwing range come to be, especially in Coahoma? Owner Jerod Flohr, a native to Coahoma and a 2005 graduate of Coahoma High School, explained that the idea was based on his family’s and his own personal experiences of not having a place to go for recreational shooting.

“I live in Nevada, so I always travel down to spend time with my family during the holidays and the one thing we all like to do as a family when I visit is get together and go shooting.” He went on to add “The problem is that it’s becoming hard to find a place to go shoot and or it’s beginning to become a big liability for landowners.”

“I told my dad, this past holiday season I came down, that this would be the last time I ask where we can go shooting!” From there the idea was born and the steps to make Big Star Shooters Inc. and Jack Axes a reality came to be. Jerod along with his sister Sydne Bedwell (general manager) and Father Tim Flohr (general manager) are committed to the

community and looking to work and assist with everyone’s needs to help provide a great for experience for all!

Jerod elaborated that both places will offer affordable prices so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy. There will also be daily and weekly specials for both places as well. There is even talks about possibly forming an axe league to help add to the fun! There are waivers that need be signed, but don’t worry Jerod said they have you taken care of. All waivers can be filled out online and ahead of time before you arrive so you can enjoy yourself and not waste any time. First responders, veterans and activeduty members, and teachers can even receive discounts. Jerod also made it a point to add that live music events will also take place at least once a month, possibly two with local and regional bands.

When asked if both places had big goals to expand to other areas?
