Checking in with PATRICK DEMPSEY

- BY JAY BOBBIN

The “Devils” continue to be in the series details for Patrick Dempsey.

Though television’s former “Mcdreamy” returned to “Grey’s Anatomy” for a limited run, as part of the fever dreams of a then-covid-19-afflicted Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), his steadier TV home lately has been in the internationally funded finance-world drama “Devils.” That show returns to The CW for its second season Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Dempsey continues his role as Dominic Morgan, a slick and savvy banking chief suspected of unsavory activities by Massimo Ruggero (Alessandro Borghi), a gifted trader who considered Morgan a mentor ... until being denied a major promotion, which Ruggero believes he was set up to lose. The tension between the two men plays out on a global scale.

“Devils” originally was picked up by The CW to help fill out its fall 2020 schedule when the coronavirus pandemic caused the production of other series to be delayed. Dempsey has told us he deems the show a gift, given where he wants to take his career now: “To be able to travel around the world and work with filmmakers in their own countries, it’s something that I want to do a lot more of.”

Though he also appeared last year in an episode of the series “Surrealestate” and reprises his Disney “Enchanted” movie role in the forthcoming sequel “Disenchanted,” Dempsey maintains his interest in auto racing, having sat behind the wheel many times and attended Monaco’s Grand Prix recently.

“I’ve really learned a lot through racing,” he reflects. “Your focus has to be 100 percent on one thing at a time, and you do that until it’s completed and then move on.” Birthdate: Jan. 13, 1966

Birthplace: Lewiston, Maine

Current residence: Los Angeles

Marital status: Married, had three children
