Abbott bans abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest

-

Beto for Texas spokesperson Chris Evans issued the following statement today in response to Greg Abbott trying to justify his extreme and unpopular abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest by telling women who are the victims of these crimes that they should not worry because they can just take Plan B instead of having abortions:

“Greg Abbott’s extreme abortion ban with no exception for rape or incest took effect last week as Texas leads the nation in rape offenses on his watch, and as the arrest rate for rape has fallen by nearly half since he took office. Meanwhile, Abbott allows over 3,000 untested rape kits to collect dust in his state crime labs. Texans deserve better than this extremism, cruelty and incompetence. As governor, Beto will fight to restore a woman’s freedom to make her own decisions about her own body, health care and future.”

During a taped interview conducted by NBC-5 and the Dallas Morning News, Abbott declared that those Texans who are the victims of rape or incest “can get the Plan B pill that can prevent a pregnancy from occurring in the first place.” He added that reporting the crime “will ensure that the rapist will be arrested and prosecuted.”

This comes nearly one year after Abbott was asked why he is forcing a rape or incest victim to carry a pregnancy to term. He responded by pledging that he would “eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas.” Under Abbott, Texas has the highest number of rape offenses in the entire country. The arrest rate for rape has also plummeted by 47 percent since he became governor.
