A comedy show, a partially blacked out sun and a bevy of Fall Festivals slated this October in Big Spring

Eccletic mix of events in 'Around Town' roundup

Looking for a good time this weekend? There's a free comedy show at Crossroads benefiting a local veteran. Hosted by Greenbean Entertainm­ent and featuring Doors open at 8 p.m.

Always a Big Spring favorite, Holy Trinity Catholic Parish is having its annual Fall Festival Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bingo will be held 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., a Mexican meal will be available from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. There will be musical entertainm­ent and games for the whole family. October is the funnest month for people who enjoy the spooky season and for those who love a cold one or two.

The Hotel Settles is hosting Oktoberfes­t Oct. 27 from 5:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Knock Out Dance Academy kicks off the fun with a performanc­e at 5:30 p.m. Explore our local vendor market while enjoying delicious food truck eats. Don't forget to bring the entire family – we will have plenty of games and prizes. Relish the crisp taste of German beer as you groove to live tunes from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

Lets not forget our neighbors to the south.

St. Lawrence Fall Festival, another local favorite for it's legendary German sausage, is this Sunday, Oct. 1 at the St. Lawrence Parish Hall 10 miles south of Garden City on Hwy 33, then 5 miles west on FM 2401. There is a Country Store, a silent auction, booths and children's games. German sausage and brisket lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Don't empty your whole penny bank though because there's lots more to come as Halloween approaches. A sure show-stopper and an event that we who live in West Texas can just step outside and view for free, is the Annular Eclipse. If you want to view the approximat­ely 4 minute occurrence in the company of friends and family Texas State Park. Ongoing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the CCC group picnic pavilion and playground area. The event is completely outdoors. Please dress for the weather and bring your own sun protection. Bring your own water bottle. Bringing your own snacks and folding chair are optional. The cost is free.

On Oct. 22-23 The Crossroads Comic and Toy Show will be at the YMCA. Guests include Tony Daniels, Niketa Calame and Alicyn Packard and Ghost face from scream 3 Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Big Spring Trade Days is slated for Oct. 28 and 29. Admission is free and boasts more than 100 booths and food trucks. The event will be at the Howard County Fair Barn. 2900 Old State Hwy 80. Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more informatio­n visit www.upevents.org
