- By PATRICK GONZALES HERALD Sports Editor

We enter week four of the Big Spring Herald's Athletes of the Week voted by you the fans! Again there were many top performers in week four from our Crossroads teams and once again the fans have spoken!

This week's Male and Female Athletes of the Week, voted by you the fans, are Jacob Marquez and Kendall Brooks both from Big Spring.

MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

JACOB MARQUEZ – BIG SPRING STEERS CROSS COUNTRY

The Big Spring Steers cross country team competed at the Lubbock ISD Invitational last Saturday and ran to an overall fifth place finish. The team was led by sophomore Jacob Marquez who has consistently improved his time at every meet this season so far. Marquez finished fourth individually and ran a pesonal best of 17:40.80 in the Class 4A 5K Boys race. This is also the first year for Marquez to run cross country. “Jacob is the kind of kid every coach could want in a runner. He has raw talent for the sport and he is slowly beginning to see and tap into his potential as a runner.” Steers head cross country Brandon Clemmons said. “Really he's just a natural athlete that could excel in any sport and with his strong work ethic he has the potential to see a lot of success.”

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

KENDALL BROOKS – BIG SPRING LADY STEERS VOLLEYBALL

The Big Spring varsity volleyball team is off to a great start since District 5-4A play began last Saturday. Currently the Lady Steers are sporting a perfect 2-0 record in District 5-4A. Senior Kendall Brooks has been an integral part for the Lady Steers success since the start of district play. Brooks who plays as an outside hitter had a big game for the Lady Steers in their district opener against Snyder last Saturday. Brooks finished the game with 6 aces and 5 kills. “She is a big asset for us on the court especially on the left side and she is able to keep our offensive momentum going when we need it.” Lady Steers head volleyball coach Sunni Strickland said.

“I am so thankful to have been voted female athlete of the week. I could not have been able to achieve this without my amazing teammates and coaches. I'm really excited for what this season has in store. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me ,and hopefully we will be on our way to a district win soon.” Brooks said.

Congratulations to both Kendall Brooks and Jacob Marquez on being named this week's Big Spring Heralds Athletes of the Week.
