SAN ANGELO – Steer running back Kavien Ford proved to be too much for Lakeview's defense Thursday night as he scored seven rushing touchdowns in the game to help lead Big Spring to a much needed district win over the Chiefs.

The Steers (2-6, 1-1) beat out Lakeview 63-43 in what should secure them the final playoff spot in District 2-4A. Big Spring finished the game with 8 rushing touchdowns in the game with seven of those coming from Ford alone.

Big Spring built an early lead at the beginning of the game courtesy of Ford who scored three touchdowns alone in the first quarter. By halftime Big Spring held a comfortable 34-7 lead with Ford finishing the night with

Lakeview (1-8, 0-3) rallied in the second half scoring 36 points but for every Chiefs scoring drive, Big Spring had a response.

Ford rushed for two more touchdowns in the second half and a short pass to Keyshaun Woodruff in the fourth quarter would be enough to seal the win for the Steers.

With the loss, Lakeview's chances are slim to make the playoffs as they have two district losses already to both Andrews and No. 8 Brownwood. The Chiefs will be off this coming week before traveling to Lubbock in Week 11 for the final district game of the season.

With the win, the Steers have likely secured the last and final playoff spot as they head into next Friday's game against a tough Lubbock Estacado team in their final home game of the season.

Last year, the Steers almost pulled off the upset in Lubbock, but a fumble in the final minutes of the game shifted the momentum back to Esatcado who capitalized on the turnover for a scoring drive to win the game.

Estacado will head into the matchup coming off of a tough loss this past Thursday to the Lions at home with the final score of 35-14. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium.
