Lady Hawks soar to 57-34 win over Cisco
The Howard College women's basketball team used a strong first half to secure a 57-34 win over Cisco College Thursday night at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
The Lady Hawks led 32-19 at halftime and closed the game out outscoring the Lady Wranglers 25-15 in the second half to secure the win.
Cicso jumped out early as they went on a 7-0 run in the early minutes of the first quarter. Howard's Elysa Martinez sparked the Lady Hawks midwya through the first quarter lacing a 3-point jump shot.
Howard's Jada Torrence followed that up with another 3-point shot to cut the deficit by one. Howard College went on a six point run to take a 12-7 lead, but with just under two minutes left in the opening quarter Cisco would respond scoring six points of their own to take a 13-12 lead after the first quarter.
Howard outscored Cisco in the second quarter 20-6 to take a commanding lead at the half. The effort was led by several Howard College players.
Offense was sluggish at the start of the second half but Howard College again outscored Cisco 9-7. The Lady Hawks closed out the final quarter with 16-8 run to secure the win over Cisco.
Howard's Jada Torrence paced the Lady Hawks as she finished the night with 16 points while shooting 7-8 on the court. Torrence was 1-1 on 3-point attempts. Elysa Martinez finished the game with 11 points for Howard College. Martinez shot 4-8 on the court and was 3-5 on 3-point attempts.
Esmeralda Hill contributed eight points in the win, while Daizjia Oages contributed six points for Howard College.
Cisco College was led bu Zanyra Adams who shot 4-15 on the court for 11 points. Adams also went 2-9 on 3-point goal attempts.
Howard College will play again today at home as they host Lamar Community College in non-conference action. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
