History Nerds is a great conversation starter for history buffs
One of the members makes really good Ginger Snaps, too
Last Wednesday's History Nerds meeting had a lot to talk about. The Greater Courses presentation gave an out of the box view of the possible mind-set and the struggle of our founding fathers as they created our Constitution.
Not everyone was onboard with the idea of a democracy and it was said that a Republic wouldn't work on such a grand scale which at the time only consisted of the colonies.
Interestingly, the struggles, disagreements and dissidence that was present then continues today.
The next meeting will be held the week after Thanksgiving and will focus on George Washington. The synopsis reads in part, “We know that the cherry tree story about George Washington is a myth, but we still accept as fact what is at least partially mythical about the father of our country: that he was a great military and political leader. He was not perceived that way by some of his peers, and many historians agree with some of their criticisms. This lecture will look at Washington's failings and analyze his accomplishments, including some little-known ones that may be his most important contributions to American History.”
The History Nerds meets every Wednesday at noon at the First Presbyterian Church located at 701 Runnels.
Prior to the meeting, attendees were treated to Ginger Snaps provided by Darla Wales who was kind enough to share her recipe.
